Artist Spotlight: Oscar Blue

Oscar Blue looking to the left

Following the release of his new single 'Birds in Winter', we caught up with Oscar Blue to talk about his musical inspirations, why Glasgow feels like a second home and his upcoming show at Poetry Club.

We can’t wait to see you headline The Poetry Club – what can we expect from the show?
I can't wait to be back in Glasgow. As an Irishman, it always feel like a home away from home and I've always had great support from the Glasweigans. I've just finished recording my debut album and I'm about to release the first single from that body of work. So I'm thinking of these shows almost like a warm-up tour where I can share the new music with those who have been supporting me throughout these early stages of my career, and to tell the stories behind the songs.

Are there any artists that inspire your music/songwriting? Who and why?
I grew up listening to a lot of amazing Irish pop and rock bands like U2, Snow Patrol, The Script and Kodaline. They definitely inspired me to make quite atmospheric and big sounding music...but simultaneously I adore a lot of extremely intimate songwriters and storytellers like like Ben Howard and Adrienne Lenker. So I'd like to think my music sits somewhere between those two worlds.

Do you have a favourite lyric? What is it?
It changes all the time, but my friends Amble have some beautiful lines in their song "Of Land and Sea" - "I want chimney smoke from the house I dug, to blow over the graves I know, I want a razor cut and a high-vis vest and an ogham tattoo across my chest". I think there's a great sense of Celtic heritage in those lines and it paints a strong sense of people and place which I absolutely love.

What is a song that reminds you of home?
I have a song called "Backyard Mafia" that I wrote about growing up in a small village in the West of Ireland. It's largely about how no matter how far I travel or what happens during each adventure, home will always be there waiting for me. It's a place where I feel seen and known deeply by those I grew up with.

How is the rest of 2025 looking for you? Any exciting plans you can tell us about?
Well my tour kicks off in mid-November which I'm buzzing for and I released my new single 'Birds in Winter' on November 7th. It's going to be a busy end to the year but 2026 is looking even busier. Keep an eye out for a debut album and lots more shows.
