Artist Spotlight: Juanita Stein

Artist Spotlight: Juanita Stein

We sat down for a quick chat with Juanita ahead of her Glasgow show on Tuesday 18th March…

You released your fourth solo album, The Weightless Hour, last November. It’s a gorgeous collection of really stripped back, reflective work, how did this album come about?

Thank you. This album came about like all my albums tend to do, they’re reactions to a previous body of work. A restlessness with any one style, narrative or mood. My previous album ‘Snapshot’ was the heaviest body of work I’d created to date, emotionally and lyrically, also at times musically. I really needed The Weightless Hour to be exactly that, weightless. Not empty, but void of the noise and weight that comes with recording an album with a full band. It definitely shaped the songs and the mood of the record.

Some fans may have seen you not so long ago when you supported Travis at the OVO Hydro. How did you find playing to a Scottish crowd there?

That particular show was awesome. Obviously the volume of people was a factor in that, but also, the reaction was wonderful, I like when the audience participates, when someone will say something encouraging, warm hearted. I don’t mind a lil tipsy banter!

How is the rest of 2025 looking for you? Any exciting plans you can tell us about?

Taking this album out on the road for the first time is the most exciting to me. Being able to interpret these songs live, to reconnect with people I’ve met over the years at my shows, as well as people I’ve met over the last 6 months supporting other artists. Taking a new band out with me, this is all inspiring for me and there will be more shows to come!

We can’t wait to see you headline Nice N Sleazy next month – what can we expect from the show?

Ive heard excellent things about Nice N Sleazy, certain bands I know will go out of their way to hang there, whether or not a band is playing, they just dig the vibe! I’ve not played there before, so very much looking forward to it. This tour will be myself and 2 other very talented musicians with me. Trying to honour the stripped back nature of The Weightless Hour, whilst also fleshing out songs from my other albums….plus I’m always gonna play a couple Howling Bells numbers to tie it all up!
