Artist Spotlight: Jack Kane

It's been an exciting start to the year for singer-songwriter Jack Kane who has just released his stunning new single 'Breaking Up At The Department Store' ahead of his upcoming tour. We had the chance to catch up with Jack recently before he heads to Glasgow this April...
For new fans, can you tell us a little bit more about you and the journey you've been on to where you are now?
I'm Jack Kane, a multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter from Hertfordshire. Like most musicians, I've always played, but I only started releasing my own music in 2021, so I still very much feel like a new artist, which to me is a very exciting place to be. I think my first couple of EPs were places where I could experiment, find my sound and dance the line between discovering my own sound and trying to sound like my heroes! I think this next EP is a real step in the 'ME' direction!
Who have been your biggest inspirations recently?
Recently I've been listening to loads of 90s and 2000s music, so people like Alanis Morisette, Sheryl Crow, The Chicks. I think that was a really exciting time for music where there was a lot of untrodden ground lyrically. This next project definitely has some of that early 2000s vibe too.
What's one song you wish you would've written and why?
Wichita Lineman by Jimmy Webb. This song means a lot to my dad and his family, and even though it's hard to fully understand what it's about, the mood is so strong I can feel what it wants me to feel without thinking and I think that's why I can listen to it over and over.
You're headed out on your first ever UK & Ireland tour this April - how does it feel to be doing that?
It's such a mixture of feelings, the main one being stomach churningly excited, I literally can not wait, as soon as I start thinking about it my legs just start going mad like I'm about to do a sprint. I'm getting to play some of my favourite venues in the world in front of people that actually want to hear my music.
We can't wait for your upcoming show at The Garage (Attic Bar) on Friday 4th April. What are you most looking forward to about playing in Glasgow?
I can't wait either! Glasgow has always felt like a second home to me, a lot of my family are from there and I spent a while living in North Kelvinside. I have such happy memories of Glasgow. But like most shows, the thing I'm looking forward to the most is meeting everyone after the show!
