International Women's Day 2025

International Women's Day 2025

To celebrate International Women’s Day, we’ll be taking a look at some of the incredible achievements of female Gigs in Scotland artists from the last year!

Charli XCX

It’s safe to say that 2024 was Charli XCX’s year. Her summer-defining album Brat was undeniably a global and cultural phenomenon and her most successful project to date. Charli swept every category she was nominated for at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards, and took home the Powerhouse Award at the Billboard Women in Music ceremony. She was also nominated for a massive eight Grammy awards this year (winning three), making her the most nominated British artist at this years’ ceremony.

In December, she played a phenomenal sold-out show at the OVO Hydro, and most recently scooped up five BRIT Awards, including album of the year for Brat.

Sabrina Carpenter

Sabrina Carpenter’s rise to pop icon status in the last year has been nothing short (‘n sweet) of incredible. She kicked off 2024 supporting Taylor Swift on the Latin America, Australia and Singapore leg of the Eras Tour, before releasing smash hit Espresso which topped charts around the globe and went on to earn her a Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance.

Earlier this month, she become the first international artist ever to win the Global Success Award at the BRIT Awards in recognition of a truly astonishing year in which she dominated global charts, including holding the number one spot in the Official UK Charts for a combined 21 weeks in 2024 – the first artist to do so in 71 years. We can’t wait for Sabrina’s SOLD OUT show at the OVO Hydro next week!

Chappell Roan

Chappell Roan’s rise to fame has been spectacular to witness. From her humble beginnings to winning the coveted Best New Artist award at the VMAs, Chappell Roan has carved out a space in pop music that is refreshingly unique, cementing her place as one of music’s most exciting new voices. Her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess was released in 2023, and while it was not an immediate success, the album later found its footing as a sleeper hit by early 2024. Her appearance at Lollapalooza in August drew the biggest daytime set and the largest crowds ever seen at the festival, showcasing her influence in the music world. Most recently, she won International Artist of the Year and International Song of the Year for Good Luck, Babe! at the BRIT Awards.

Tickets to her 2024 show at O2 Academy Glasgow were like GOLD DUST and we can’t for her to come back to Scotland in the future!

Lana Del Rey

After a series of sensational live shows in 2024 - including headline performances at festivals including Coachella, Reading & Leeds, and Rock en Seine, as well as her first stadium show at Fenway Park, Boston, USA – Lana Del Rey is set to return with her first ever UK stadium tour this summer, following the release of her upcoming tenth album in May.

Lana Del Rey will take to the stage at Hampden Park on 26th June - her first Scottish headline show since 2017. We can’t wait!

Olivia Rodrigo

2024 saw Olivia Rodrigo complete her biggest tour ever, including two nights at the OVO Hydro in May as part of her GUTS world tour. She also won Touring Artist of the Year at the Billboard Live Music Awards, and her debut album Sour became the first studio album to have every track surpass 300 million streams on Spotify.

Stevie Nicks

Legendary Fleetwood Mac vocalist Stevie Nicks finished her UK and Europe tour at the OVO Hydro on 24th July 2024, performing some of her hits like DreamsEdge of SeventeenRhiannon and Landslide.

With three platinum albums under her belt now, Doja Cat has clawed her way to the top and cemented herself as a powerhouse in the music industry, able to create not only viral singles but albums that stand the test of time.

Cat Burns

Multi-BRIT-nominated, double platinum-selling artist Cat Burns’ career trajectory has gone from strength to strength. She’s made her mark on stages on both sides of the pond, winning audiences over with her sublime live performances. In 2024, Cat was nominated for the Mercury Prize album of the year and took to the stage for an amazing headline show at the O2 Academy in Glasgow.

Nieve Ella

Nieve Ella has quickly become one of the most exciting artists in the UK, making her start via TikTok covers of some of her biggest alt-pop/indie influences. Having now gained a digital audience of 100k+ and over 3M streams, her dedicated fanbase continues to grow. Nieve Ella headlines SWG3 TV Studio on Monday 10th March and will be appearing at Rockstar Energy presents TRNSMT this summer!

Beabadoobee

In 2024, Beabadoobee secured her first ever UK number one album with the release of her third album This Is How Tomorrow Moves, marking a major breakthrough in her music career.

She opened the first night of her 2024 UK tour with a sold out show at the O2 Academy Glasgow.
